Very Good Dessert

Serves 6-8.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter
  • ⅓ cup sugar (for crust)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla (for crust)
  • 1 cup flour
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • ¼ cup sugar (for filling)
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla (for filling)
  • 4 to 5 pieces of fruit
  • ⅓ cup sugar (for fruit topping)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ cup slivered almonds, if desired

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  2. Mix together the ⅓ cup sugar and flour, then cut in the butter with a pastry cutter. Sprinkle in the ¼ teaspoon vanilla and stir in. Press this crust mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch springform pan.
  3. Combine the cream cheese, ¼ cup sugar, egg, and ½ teaspoon vanilla and beat until fluffy. Pour on top of the crust.
  4. Slice the fruit and toss with the ⅓ cup sugar and cinnamon. Arrange on top of the dessert in an overlapping pattern. Sprinkle almonds on top, if desired.
  5. Bake at 450°F for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 400°F and bake for 25 minutes longer. Serve at room temperature.
